Andhra Pradesh government after opposing NEET UG 2012 strongly wants to move government college medical seats (40% of them) to management quota. Earlier 100% of the seats in government medical colleges were filled purely through merit in EAMCET; State government wants to part ways to it soon reports Deccan Chronicle.
At present there are 13 government medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh with an intake of about 1,500 seats. The tuition fee in government colleges is Rs 10,000 per annum and 100% of seats were filled through EAMCET counseling.
The objective behind the proposed move is unclear, this may become another breaking news in Andhra Pradesh. The state is already suffering with Telangana agitation, protest and bandhs on a regular basis. Valuable time was lost due to closed doors of colleges and schools during the Telangana agitation, the new move from government will create panic especially for economically backward class people.
The fee bar for medical seat through management quota is going to be Rs 260,000 per annum which is infeasible for a middle class born student. With only 60% seats for merit the poor, deserving merit students will suffer.
